Scientifically proven vocal technique - no more guessing!

After years of study and teaching many, many voices I have developed on a vocal technique based upon the physics of how the voice actually functions. This scientific approach views the voice as an acoustic instrument, and like any acoustic instrument focuses on correctly using 3 main parts; Energy, Vibrator and Resonating chamber.

Breath is the energy that powers the voice and causes the whole instrument to function. It can be thought of much like the hand strums a guitar string, causing it to vibrate. In lessons singers learn how to breath correctly and how to use the breath properly to create a strong and dynamic voice free of strain.

Vocal Cords
The vocal cords are the vibrating mechanism of the vocal instrument and like the string of a guitar creating the sound we hear. The vocal cords are responsible for creating the pitch we hear and volume or intensity of the sound. In lessons students learn how to use their vocal cords correctly to sing with power and clarity on any pitch.

Like the hollow body of a guitar the throat and mouth act as an amplifier for the voice. This is what vocal coach refer to as resonance, and is arguably the most important aspect of vocal technique. In lessons students learn how to shape the mouth and throat properly creating a full quality that is natural and emotionally moving.

Performance, the second biggest puzzle piece.

Singing is meant to be done in front of an audience and this means that singers must be able to perform! Through lessons singers learn; how to act on stage, use a microphone, move their body, as well as conquer stage fright so they can perform in front of an audience and share their passion for singing.

  • Body Movement
Body movement is the basis of performance. What do you do with your hands, face and legs while you perform? Where do you look and how to show confidence in a performance? The answers to these questions lie in learning how to move your body while you perform.

  • Stage Work
Working the stage includes knowing how to use a microphone and microphone stand, how work and use the stage properly during a performance, or even if you should sing in the crowd. Stage work is a must for any singer wanting to become more than just a "shower signer".

  • Expression
A off shoot from body movement, expression focuses more on emotion behind the performance. This ranges from small hand gestures, eye contact and facial expressions on slower songs to outright dancing and group choreography for higher energy entertainment.

Musicality, singers are musicians.

Singers need to focus on three main facets of music: Pitch, Rhythm, and song choice.

  • Pitch
Having great pitch is extremely important for any musical instrument such as the voice. Singers must be able to hit notes, stay in key and tune the vocal resonance to nail any pitch dead on.

  • Rhythm
Rhythm & timing is a signers ability to find and keep the beat of the music as well as give notes the correct duration. Great rhythm is fundamental and singers must practice, demonstrate and exhibit great rhythm if they wish to an effective vocalist.

  • Song
Choosing the correct songs to sing can mean the difference between impressive performances and complete flops. Singers must know how to choose songs at the edge of their ability for continued vocal growth during lessons, as well songs for performances, recording, etc...

Artistry, becoming more than just a singer.

More advanced singers usually want to start moving their art to the next level. This includes writing their own music, songs and lyrics. In lessons singers can get help not only writing music but deciding on their style and look, and focus on the things that make them unique.a

  • Branding
Branding is your artistic image, song style, the way in which you present yourself as a brand to the public and to your fans. Now days branding yourself is a must!

  • Uniqueness
This is what separates one artist form the next. There are many singers in the world so it is very important for artist to distinguish them selves from all the other amateur signers.

  • Influences
All great artists have to build upon something. This means they have spent time looking into other music from other artists that influences they music they make.If an artist does not know what their influences are it something they must look into!
